My applications for Medical Lecturer posts

In May 2021 when I was working as a Teaching Fellow at NUMed, I had enjoyed it so much that I firmly decided to be a Medical Lecturer in the long term.

Since obtaining my Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) Full Registration and Annual Practising Certificate (APC) in November 2023, I had unsuccessfully applied for a Medical Lecturer post a total of 10 times.

1. December 2023 - Clinical Lecturer post
Outcome: Failure (Not shortlisted for interview)

2. July 2024 - Fixed-term Clinical Lecturer post
Outcome: Failure (Not shortlisted for interview)

3. August 2024 - Lecturer post
Outcome: Failure (Not shortlisted for interview)

4. September 2024 - Trainee Medical Lecturer post in Physiology
Outcome: Failure (Rejected following interview)

5. October 2024 - Trainee Medical Lecturer post in Medical Education
Outcome: Failure (Not shortlisted for interview)

6. October 2024 - Medical Officer post in Internal Medicine at a university hospital
Outcome: Failure (Rejected following interview)

7. November 2024 - Trainee Medical Lecturer post in Internal Medicine
Outcome: Failure (Not shortlisted for interview)

8. December 2024 - Trainee Medical Lecturer post in Anaesthesiology
Outcome: Failure (Rejected following interview)

9. August 2025 - Trainee Medical Lecturer post in Family Medicine
Outcome: Failure (Not shortlisted for interview)

10. January 2026 - Medical Doctor post at a university affiliated clinic
Outcome: Failure (Not shortlisted for interview)

On my 11th attempt in January 2026, I applied for a Trainee Lecturer post in Primary Care. In February 2026, I received the reply where I was told to complete a job application form and return it with the supporting documents.

In late April 2026, I was shortlisted for an interview for the Trainee Lecturer post. The interview was held online on 7 May 2026. The interview questions were fairly easy and I felt I answered them quite well.

On 22 June 2026, I was informed that I had been successful in my application for the Trainee Lecturer post. After 10 consecutive unsuccessful applications, I finally succeeded in getting a Medical Lecturer post!

However, by then I had already moved on from my pursuit for a Medical Lecturer post, wanting to focus on my new goal of pursuing Family Medicine specialty training instead, following my transformative journey at Klinik Kesihatan Ibu dan Anak (KKIA) Limbang.

I had been offered a permanent Medical Officer (MO) post as well as the Hadiah Latihan Persekutuan (HLP) for the Graduate Certificate in Family Medicine - Advanced Training in Family Medicine (GCFM-ATFM) programme by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in May 2026.

Following thorough considerations, I decided to decline the Trainee Lecturer post offer and to accept the permanent MO post and HLP offers by the MOH instead.

That marked the definitive end of my pursuit for a Medical Lecturer post. Maybe in the future, after I qualify as a Family Medicine Specialist (FMS), I will consider becoming a Medical Lecturer again.
