Following the completion the 5th posting of my House Officer training on 6 September 2023, I have gained my Full Registration with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). Subsequently, I have also gained my Annual Practising Certificate (APC) for 2024.
With this, I am now ready to pursue my Medical Education dream!
Hi Daniel. Do we have to complete 1 year of compulsory service as an mo before getting APC?
ReplyDeleteWe can apply for APC immediately after we get MMC full registration. We must then complete at least 1 year of compulsory service with KKM. Otherwise, we may not be able to renew our APC for the following year and our MMC full registration may get cancelled.
DeleteI see. And do we get do choose which posting do to our 1 year compulsory service?
ReplyDeleteWe can request to enter a particular specialty as a Medical Officer. However, the hospital has the final say on which specialty we are allocated to. Usually our request will be granted, but there's no guarantee on that. If a particular specialty is really short of Medical Officers, we may be allocated there even if we requested to enter another specialty.
DeleteWill there be interviews? And can we request for example:- MO for pathology or blood bank or public health?
ReplyDeleteThere will not be any interviews. We can request to enter non-clinical departments like the ones you mentioned. However, it's usually quite difficult for it to be granted. This is because non-clinical departments require far fewer Medical Officers compared to clinical departments.
DeleteDid you float as an MO? And will the time we spend floating count as compulsory service that enables us to apply for Masters?
ReplyDeleteI am currently a floating MO in the Medical department.
DeleteThe 1-year compulsory service counts from the date we are granted our MMC Full Registration. Our 6th HO posting and our floating MO period are counted for the compulsory service.
