My MedEx Family Medicine exam

On 18 November 2025, I took the MedEx Family Medicine exam for the 1st time. That was about a year after I started working at Klinik Kesihatan Ibu dan Anak (KKIA) Limbang.

MedEx Family Medicine is used for entry into Master's programmes for Family Medicine specialty training in Malaysia. MedEx Family Medicine results are expressed as band scores ranging from Band 1 to Band 6, with Band 4 being the minimum requirement for a pass.

I am aiming to join the Graduate Certificate in Family Medicine - Advanced Training in Family Medicine (GCFM-ATFM) programme, which doesn't use MedEx Family Medicine. However, I still chose to take MedEx Family Medicine to demonstrate my commitment to Family Medicine.

The results of my MedEx Family Medicine exam were released on 8 December 2025. I successfully passed it with Band 4.

About Me

My name is Daniel Lim Jhao Jian. I am a male and my age is currently 31. My date of birth is 23 March 1995. I am from Malaysia and I am a Chinese Buddhist. I speak English, Mandarin and Malay. My hobbies are surfing the internet, watching movies and listening to music.

I was born in Subang Jaya, Selangor, but I grew up in Kulim, Kedah. I lived in Kulim with my grandparents for 17 years. After completing secondary school, I moved to Subang Jaya and I studied Cambridge A Level at Taylor's College Subang Jaya for 1.5 years. In September 2014, I started studying MBBS at Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) in Johor Bahru, Johor.

In August 2020, I completed the MBBS degree successfully. In October 2020, I started working as a Teaching Fellow at NUMed. I gained the AFHEA qualification in June 2021 and the FHEA qualification in December 2021. In August 2021, I began House Officer training at Kluang hospital.

I gained my MMC Full Registration in September 2023 and my APC in November 2023. In January 2024, I completed my House Officer training and began working as a Medical Officer at the Internal Medicine department of Kluang hospital. In February 2024, I gained my UK GMC Full Registration.

In June 2024, I got transferred to Klinik Kesihatan Sundar in Lawas, Sarawak. In September 2024, I passed the MRCP(UK) Part 1 exam successfully. In October 2024, I got transferred to Klinik Kesihatan Ibu dan Anak (KKIA) in Limbang, Sarawak. In February 2025, I got a place for the MInTFM specialty training programme, due to begin in July 2026.

In April 2025, I passed the MRCP(UK) Part 2 exam successfully. In July 2025, I passed the MRCPCH/DCH FOP exam successfully. In October 2025, I obtained the Basic Obstetrics Ultrasound C&P. In December 2025, I obtained Band 4 in the MedEx Family Medicine. I attained Associate Membership of the AFPM in January 2026.

In May 2026, I got a place for the GCFM-ATFM specialty training programme under the HLP, due to begin in September 2026. Later that month, I got a permanent Medical Officer post. In June 2026, I passed the DCH Clinical exam and attained the DCH successfully.
